'Going rate' is the standard salary for that specific occupation code – whichever is higher applies.

Step‑by‑Step Application Process

Find a sponsor

Search the register of licensed sponsors. Apply for jobs that explicitly state sponsorship is available.

Get CoS

Your employer assigns a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) – an electronic record with your job details.

Apply online

Complete the application on gov.uk up to 3 months before your start date.

Biometrics & decision

Provide fingerprints, pay fees. Decision: 3 weeks (outside UK) or 8 weeks (inside).

Path to Permanent Residence (ILR)

After 5 continuous years on a Skilled Worker visa, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. You must still be working for your sponsor and meeting salary requirements. ILR gives you the right to live, work, and study in the UK without time restrictions.
