Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
An ECA verifies that your foreign degree, diploma, or certificate is equivalent to a Canadian educational credential. It is mandatory for many economic immigration programs and some work permits.
When Is an ECA Required?
- Express Entry – For Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class (points for education)
- Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) – Many PNPs require an ECA for skilled worker streams
- Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) – Required for most applicants
- Agri‑Food Pilot – May be required depending on job offer

- World Education Services (WES) – most common
- Comparative Education Service (CES) – University of Toronto
- International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS)
- Medical Council of Canada (for physicians)
- Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (for pharmacists)
How to Get an ECA
1. Gather your academic documents (degree certificate, transcripts, etc.)
2. Choose a designated organisation and create an account
3. Submit your documents online or by mail
4. Pay the fee (CAD $200–$300) and wait 4‑8 weeks
