Switching from Student Visa to Skilled Worker
This is one of the most common switches. Requirements:
- You must have completed your course
- You must have a job offer from a licensed sponsor
- The job must meet salary and skill level requirements
- You can apply up to 3 months before your course completion date
Timing tip: Apply before your Student visa expires. You can stay in the UK while waiting for a decision.
Switching from Graduate Visa to Skilled Worker
Graduate visa holders have a streamlined path to Skilled Worker:
- No cooling‑off period – switch immediately
- New entrant salary applies (£30,960) – much lower than standard £41,700
- Time on Graduate visa does not count toward 5‑year ILR requirement
Key advantage: The lower "new entrant" salary threshold makes switching from Graduate to Skilled Worker much easier.
Switching Employers on a Skilled Worker Visa
You can change employers without leaving the UK:
- You need a new Certificate of Sponsorship from your new employer
- You must meet salary and skill level requirements for the new role
- Apply for a new visa before starting the new job
- Your 5‑year ILR clock continues (no gap)
