Eligibility – Professional Category
- US or Mexican citizen (not permanent resident)
- Occupation listed in CUSMA Appendix 2 (engineer, computer systems analyst, accountant, economist, etc.)
- Job offer from a Canadian employer – but no LMIA required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Other CUSMA Categories
- Intra‑Company Transfer – executives, managers, specialized knowledge (same as ICT but under CUSMA)
- Traders & Investors – for substantial trade in goods/services or making a significant investment
- Business Visitors – short‑term stays for sales, after‑sales service, etc.
Application Process & Advantages
- Apply at the port of entry (US‑Canada land border) or online before travel
- No LMIA, no employer compliance fee ($1,000 saved)
- Processing is often same‑day at a land border
- Permit valid up to 3 years, renewable
