SkillSelect Points Test Guide
How to maximise your invitation chances

You need at least 65 points to lodge an EOI, but successful invitations often require much higher scores. We break down the factors and show you where to gain points:

  • Age (max 30 points): 25‑32 years (30 pts), 33‑39 years (25 pts) etc.
  • English ability (max 20 points): Superior (20 pts), Proficient (10 pts), Competent (0 pts).
  • Skilled employment (max 20 points): Overseas or Australian work experience in your nominated occupation.
  • Education (max 20 points): Doctorate (20), Bachelor’s (15), Diploma/trade (10).
  • Study in a regional area (5 points): For those who studied at a regional campus.
  • State nomination (5‑15 points): Subclass 190 (5 pts), Subclass 491 (15 pts).
  • Partner skills (10 points): If your partner also meets the skills, age, and English requirements.
Cut‑off scores vary by occupation and invitation round – we monitor the latest trends to advise you when to submit your EOI.
